🎨 Collaborate with Mahjong Studios — Bring Your Art to Life on Real Mahjong Tiles
At Mahjong Studios, we’re passionate not only about the game—but also about the creativity, art, and stories behind every set. We’re opening our doors to local artists, designers, illustrators, and creatives of all kinds who want to see their work transformed into functional, beautiful mahjong tiles.
Why Collaborate with Us?
- Showcase your work in a unique medium. Your art could be on the faces of real mahjong tiles used by players around the world.
- Co-create a limited-edition or signature collection. Let’s partner to produce a special line under your artistic identity and our craftsmanship.
- Grow your audience. We can promote your art through our community of mahjong enthusiasts, social media, and our website.
- Low risk for you. We handle the technical side—tile production, materials, quality control, website development, sales — while you provide the creative spark.
If you have an idea—illustrations, patterns, motifs, cultural themes, abstract designs—let’s talk. You don’t need any prior experience with tile production. We’ll guide you through how your design becomes a tile.

Frequently Asked Questions: Designing Your Own Mahjong Tiles
Here are some common questions (and answers) we get about designing custom tile artwork.
Question | Answer |
---|---|
Do I need any experience in game design or tile production? | Nope. We’ll guide you through every step. Artists just need to bring creative ideas—patterns, sketches, themes—and we take care of translating them into tile-ready artwork. |
What file format or size should I submit my design? | We usually accept high-resolution vector files (e.g. .AI, .SVG) or high-resolution PSD/PNG. Details like line thickness, safe margins, and color separations will be provided in a design brief we send you. |
How do you map a flat artwork onto the face of a mahjong tile? | We’ll create a “tile template” that shows exactly how your art will look when printed or engraved. You’ll preview and approve before production. |
What about colors and materials? | We offer options (acrylic, resin, etc.) depending on durability, finish, and style. Some designs may require adjustments to ensure contrast and readability. |
Can I design versions for multiple suits or special tiles? | Yes! You can propose designs for all suits (dots, bams, craks), honor tiles (winds, dragons), special tiles (flowers, jokers), or even custom blanks. |
How long does the design → production process take? | Depending on complexity and number of tile faces, it can take a few weeks for design iteration + production. We’ll give you a timeline early on. |
Is there a minimum order or cost? | Yes, custom tile production often requires a minimum order (to cover tooling, setup, production run). We’ll discuss the minimums before you commit. |
Can I meet in studio and see samples? | Absolutely! Schedule an appointment to visit our studio, view sample tiles, see printing/engraving tools, and discuss ideas in person. |
What if I want to tweak or rework after seeing a mockup? | We usually allow a round (or two) of revisions before finalizing. Once the production-ready file is approved, changes are harder, so careful review is important. |
